Connect PayPal Complete Payments as your payment gateway

Connect PayPal Complete Payments as your payment gateway so your store can accept payment methods your customers expect and trust. You can do this during onboarding or in Bold Account Center.

Prerequisites​

To connect a PayPal Complete Payments payment gateway to your store, you need the following:

  • Bold Booster installed on your store:
  • Admin access to the PayPal business account you want to connect
  • Knowledge of which payment method(s) you want to offer in your store. Bold Booster with PayPal Complete Payments supports the following payment methods:
    • PayPal
    • PayPal Pay Later
    • Apple Pay
    • Google Pay
    • Credit and debit cards
  • Admin access to your store

Connect PayPal Complete Payments during onboarding​

If you're first setting up Bold Booster, follow these steps to connect PayPal Complete Payments as your payment gateway during onboarding.

Enter your payment gateway information​

  1. In the onboarding modal, under Connect a payment gateway, find PayPal Complete Payments and click Connect.
  2. To embed a field for credit and debit card information directly on your checkout page, check the box titled Use advanced credit and debit card fields. If you leave it unchecked, customers can click a credit card button that redirects them to PayPal to complete a credit card payment.
  3. Check the box for Allow Bold to perform payments and refunds.
  4. Click Connect.
  5. Follow the prompts to enter the login credentials for your PayPal business account.
  6. Click the button to return to your store setup in the onboarding modal.

Select and customize payment methods​

  1. In the list of payment gateways, next to PayPal Complete Payments, click the ellipsis (...) and click Edit credentials.
  2. For Payment gateway name, specify a name for this gateway, or leave it as is. This name won't be visible to customers.
  3. For Currency, select the currency this gateway will use.
  4. For PayPal account, confirm the email is the correct email associated with your PayPal business account.
  5. Under Payment Methods, select which payment method(s) you want this payment gateway to use. Refer to the Bold Booster overview for a full list of payment methods compatible with your platform and payment gateway.
    note

    If you select a payment method that is not available to your region, that payment method will not appear on your storefront.

  6. If you enable Apple Pay, complete these additional steps so Apple Pay works correctly.
  7. (Optional) Customize the appearance of the payment method buttons.
  8. Specify whether you want this gateway to use 3D Secure for card payments. Do not enable 3D Secure if you also enable Fastlane.
  9. Select whether you want to enable guest checkout using Fastlane by PayPal.
  10. Click Save.
  11. Continue the onboarding process for your platform to connect any additional gateways and retrieve your API access token:

Connect PayPal Complete Payments in Bold Account Center​

To connect PayPal Complete Payments as your payment gateway after initial onboarding, follow these steps to add or edit a gateway at any time in Bold Account Center.

Enter your payment gateway information​

  1. In Bold Account Center, under Checkout, click Open.
  2. Click Flows.
  3. Under Connect a payment gateway, find PayPal Complete Payments and click Connect.
  4. Enter the credentials for your PayPal business account. You'll be temporarily redirected to PayPal.
  5. After successfully logging in, click Return to [your store's name].
  6. If you want to embed a field for credit and debit card information directly on your checkout page, check the Use advanced credit and debit card fields box. If you leave it unchecked, customers can click a credit card button that redirects them to PayPal to complete a credit card payment.
  7. Check the box for Allow Bold to perform payments and refunds.
  8. Click Save.
