Set up Apple Pay
Configure your store to accept Apple Pay, creating a more seamless checkout experience by allowing users to easily access their preferred payment option.
Prerequisites
To enable Apple Pay, you must have the following:
- Bold Booster for PayPal installed on your store
- Access to Bold Account Center
- Access to the payment gateway account, such as the PayPal Business account, associated with your store
- Access to your store's admin configuration
Enable Apple Pay in Bold Account Center
Enable Apple Pay in your Bold account if you haven't already. If you did this in the initial onboarding wizard, skip to the next section.
- In Bold Account Center, under Checkout, click Open.
- Navigate to Payment options > Payment gateways.
- Next to your preferred payment gateway, click the ellipsis (...) and click Edit credentials.
- Check the box to enable Apple Pay.
- Click Save.
Register and verify your domain
If you're setting up Apple Pay with PayPal Complete Payments (PPCP), Braintree, or Stripe, follow these steps to register your store domain with your payment gateway and verify your store by hosting the domain association file on your server.
If you use a different payment gateway, skip this section.
- PPCP
- Braintree
- Stripe
- Log in to your PayPal admin account.
- In the top right, hover over the account holder name and click Account Settings.
- Click Payment methods.
- Click Manage Apple Pay > Add Domain.
- Enter your store's domain (Example:
www.example.com
). - Follow the prompts to download the domain association file and host it in the following location on your server:
/.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association
- Confirm your domain association file is in the correct location.
- Open a new browser window.
- Append
/.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association
to your store's URL and navigate there in your browser. Example:https://www.example.com/.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association
- If you receive a 404 error, double-check the file's location.
- Back in the PayPal admin window, click Register Domain.
- Log in to Bold Account Center.
- Under Checkout, click Open.
- Next to PPCP, click the ellipsis (...) and click Edit credentials.
- Under Enable Apple Pay, ensure your domain is listed correctly and click the + sign.
- Click Save.
- Using Safari, place a test order in your store to verify Apple Pay is working.

You must use Safari for Apple Pay to appear as an option.
- Follow the instructions in Braintree's documentation to register your domain and host the domain association file on your server.
- Confirm your domain association file is in the correct location.
- Append
/.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association
to your store's URL and navigate there in your browser. Example:https://www.example.com/.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association
- If you receive a 404 error, double-check the file's location.
- Append
- Log in to Bold Account Center.
- Under Checkout, click Open.
- Next to Braintree, click the ellipsis (...) and click Edit credentials.
- Under Enable Apple Pay, ensure your domain is listed correctly and click the + sign.
- Click Save.
- Using Safari, place a test order in your store to verify Apple Pay is working.

- Follow the instructions in Stripe's documentation to register your domain, host the domain association file, and enable Apple Pay on your server.
- Confirm your domain association file is in the correct location.
- Append

to your store's URL and navigate there in your browser. Example:https://www.example.com/.well-known/apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association
- If you receive a 404 error, double-check the file's location.
- Append
- Log in to Bold Account Center.
- Under Checkout, click Open.
- Next to Stripe, click the ellipsis (...) and click Edit credentials.
- Under Enable Apple Pay, ensure your domain is listed correctly and click the + sign.
- Click Save.
- Using Safari, place a test order in your store to verify Apple Pay is working.

Confirm phone number settings
If your store has a phone number field required at checkout, complete the following steps to make sure your payment gateway and Bold settings match. This ensures Bold Booster for PayPal can work correctly with Apple Pay.
- Confirm or update your phone number settings in PayPal.

If you're using a different payment gateway, you can usually find these settings in your payment gateway admin account under your payment preferences.
- In your PayPal business account admin, navigate to Account Settings.
- Click Website payments.
- Next to Website preferences, click Update.
- Ensure the Contact telephone number setting is On.
- In Bold Account Center, navigate to Settings > General Settings.
- In the Checkout Process section, toggle the Phone Number setting to On.
- Click Save.
