Adobe Commerce
Bold Commerce provides an Adobe Commerce extension that enables merchants to take advantage of the world-class Bold Checkout experience without needing to replatform.
Bold Checkout supports users of both Adobe Commerce (formerly known as Magento 2) and Magento Open Source.
This document outlines basic information and features of Bold Checkout on Adobe Commerce and directs you to additional resources if necessary.
Checkout options
There is a variety of ways to use Bold Checkout in combination with your Adobe Commerce store. Click a tab below to learn more about each option.
Bold supports only one Bold-hosted or partner flow at a time. You must choose only one of the following options for your checkout.
- Payment Booster
- Bold-Hosted Checkout
- Self-Hosted Checkout
- PayPal Checkout Flow
Retain the entirety of your current checkout experience, and use Bold to add additional payment options to your checkout.

Use the proven Bold Checkout three-page checkout experience or condensed one-page checkout experience. The recommended and easiest way to use Bold Checkout on Adobe Commerce.
Bold-Hosted Checkout also features a "dual checkout" configuration option, which enables you to run Bold Checkout alongside your existing checkout. This is a great option if you want to use Bold Checkout for only certain payment gateways.

Self-host your checkout for the most control over the user experience. Use the Open Source Checkout Templates, and customize the checkout experience from there.

Use Bold Checkout to add PayPal checkout options for your Adobe Commerce store. Using the built-in Adobe Commerce checkout and PayPal Checkout Flow together allows merchants to choose which payment processor an order should go to. Customers also have the option of checking out with their payment information or their PayPal account.

Supported features include:
- PayPal payment options including:
- PayPal Smart Payment Buttons (PayPal, Pay Later, credit and debit)
- Apple Pay
- “Buy now with PayPal” button for product pages

Constraints and limitations include:
- The PayPal Checkout Flow can only be used with PayPal Commerce Platform (PPCP) as the payment gateway.
- The PayPal Checkout Flow extension does not support the following features:
- Advanced credit/debit card configuration
- Buy Online, Pickup In Store (BOPIS) functionality
- Third-party plugins
- Loyalty programs and store credits
- Gift card payments
- Shipping to multiple addresses
All options use Bold Checkout functionality to replace Adobe Commerce functionality during the customer checkout process. The following table provides more details about each option:

Supported Adobe Commerce versions
Bold Checkout supports both the enterprise Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source products. The following versions are supported:
- Version 2.3
- Version 2.4
Supported payment gateways
The Adobe Commerce integration is compatible with all Bold-supported payment gateways.
Bold strongly recommends using PayPal Complete Payments (PPCP) or Braintree as payment gateways with Adobe Commerce. The merchant is not charged Bold Checkout fees on these platforms.
When using the PayPal Checkout Flow, you must use PPCP as your payment gateway.
