Integrate Forter with Bold

Understand how Bold works with Forter for enhanced fraud protection on your store.

What's included​

Bold's Forter integration implements Forter's Fraud Management solution in your store. This post-authorization integration passes data from your Bold checkout to Forter and checks it against historical data to detect and block potential fraud.

When you integrate Forter with your Bold checkout experience, Forter's Validation API detects, blocks, and alerts you to potential fraudulent activity.

How it works​

Bold sends checkout data to Forter​

A JavaScript snippet from Forter tracks order information and user behavior on your store's checkout page.

After the payment gateway authorizes a purchase, Bold uses Forter's Order API endpoint to securely transmit checkout data to Forter for real-time analysis.

Forter detects fraudulent transactions​

Next, Forter analyzes the transaction in real time. Using machine learning informed by your store's historical data, Forter returns one of three responses:

  • Approved—The transaction continues as normal.
  • Declined—Bold blocks the transaction and voids authorization.
  • Not Reviewed—Bold temporarily stops the order from progressing until someone from your organization manually approves or declines it in your Forter dashboard. This happens if the order meets certain criteria you specify.

Bold sends order status data to Forter​

After the order is approved or declined, Bold uses Forter's Order status API endpoint to submit that information to Forter. This helps improve Forter's accuracy when analyzing your store's transactions in the future.

Enable the integration​

To enable the Forter integration, a Bold representative works with you to do the following things:

  • Create a Forter account
  • Register your Forter details with Bold
  • Send Forter 1 year of historical data for your store
  • Add Forter's JavaScript snippet to all pages in your checkout

Bold thens turn on the Forter integration for your store.

Enable webhooks​

Register for Forter webhooks to send real-time notifications to a URL of your choice when certain events occur. Use these webhooks to display transactions on your Forter dashboard so your organization can review them manually.

Work with Forter to define criteria for when purchases require manual review. Then, when purchases meet the criteria you specified, orders will show up in the manual review queue on the Forter dashboard for you to manually approve or decline.

  1. Log in to your Forter account and navigate to the dashboard.
  2. In the top left, click Dashboard and navigate to integration center.
  3. On the left menu bar, click Tools.
  4. On the inner left menu, click Webhooks.
  5. On the top right, click Add a webhook and choose Order decision update.
  6. Enter Bold's webhook URL: https://cashier.boldcommerce.com/commercetools/[your domain]/forter/decision
